Ever since the Kaseya security breach that happened back in July, you (same as many other remote access software users) might have been on alert wondering if your tool of choice provides an adequate level of protection against similar cyberware attacks.
This concern is totally understandable. According to Bloomberg, Kaseya’s former employees said that despite numerous warnings and memos the company had been storing unencrypted passwords on third-party platforms and prioritizing sales over infrastructure maintenance and security. In the end, Kaseya’s greedy obsession with profits led to the disastrous ransomware attack that happened.
Here at Techinline, we’ve put data security and protection at the forefront of our strategy. Since day one, we’ve been doing our best to maintain a healthy balance between keeping our product feature-rich, easy to use, cost-effective, and secure. To address possible concerns, here’s a brief overview of what we’ve done to keep you and your clients protected against outside attacks and what you can do to further strengthen your account security.
Account protection & two-factor authentication
Every FixMe.IT user is authenticated using a secure password that’s protected with salted cryptographic hashing and stored in an encrypted database. Only a limited number of our staff has access to basic account details, such as your email address and username, which is required for communication and support purposes. No one has access to your password.
Strict password policies apply to all FixMe.IT users. It goes without saying that you should create a strong password and regularly update it to keep your account as secure as possible.
If you’d like to add an extra layer of protection to your account, you can enable two-factor authentication by simply contacting our support team. When two-factor authentication is enabled, you need to provide your username and password followed by a randomly generated code that’s automatically sent to an email address associated with your account.
Session data protection
Every remote session is protected with the TLS 1.2 protocol using 256-bit AES encryption. Our servers route only encrypted data packets and do not have the session encryption key. This means that the data exchange between you and your clients cannot be altered or intercepted by any third party, including us.
User-revocable unattended access
Putting more power in the hands of your clients has been one of the cornerstones of the whole philosophy of our product. This is why we made our unattended access easily revocable from the end-user machine. Whenever the end-user suspects something’s not right, they can easily remove the unattended client from the Windows system tray.
No “stealth” mode
On top of the end-user’s ability to remove the unattended client at any point, there’s no option that allows running FixMe.IT in so-called background mode. As soon as unattended access is installed on a remote machine, there’s always a FixMe.IT icon visible in the Windows system tray. This makes our product unsuitable for secretly monitoring or performing any fraudulent actions on the remote computer.
Reliable server network
We use a secure, resilient network of virtualized Amazon and Microsoft Azure servers allowing the use of ICMP and HTTPS. With hardware firewalls and layered mitigation technology built into the architecture along with highly redundant power supplies and 24/7 monitoring and regular maintenance, the FixMe.IT server network ensures that all communication between you and your clients is highly secure.
If you’re looking for a secure and reliable alternative to your current remote access solution, you might want to consider switching to FixMe.IT. According to Gartner’s Capterra, FixMe.IT is one of the top rated remote support applications currently available on the market. Back in May, FixMe.IT was included in Capterra’s 2021 Remote Support Software Shortlist and outperformed TeamViewer, LogMeIn Rescue and GoToAssist based on multiple criteria, including overall user ratings, ease of use, reliability, and customer support.
