Today we’re happy to announce a new FixMe.IT version 4.4, which includes a set of enhanced screen scaling features along with other useful improvements and fixes. Here’s a sneak peek into what’s inside the update.
Improved Scaling Features
The improved scaling features will make it easier for you to adjust the remote control window and to work on a remote desktop that’s larger or smaller than your screen.
With the new “Scale to Window” setting, you can increase or reduce the size of the remote screen based on the size of the remote desktop control window. Meanwhile, the “Optimal View” option provides a convenient view of the remote desktop based on your and your client’s default screen resolution settings.
Besides that, we’ve significantly reduced the latency when working in scaling mode. The mouse cursor movement during the remote control operation is now much smoother than before.
Now let’s take a look at two different scenarios that will help you better understand how the new scaling features can make your everyday work easier.
Scenario 1: Connecting to a remote computer with smaller screen resolution
Here’s the default appearance of the remote screen in the remote control window using Original Size setting:
And here’s what happens when you try to adjust the size of the window in this mode:
As you can see there’s absolutely no effect and the screen is still small and difficult to work with.
The problem is easily solved using the new “Scale to Window” and “Optimal View” settings.
The “Scale to Window” option now allows you to adjust and expand the size of the remote control window at your own convenience as shown below:
The “Optimal View” option, in turn, will automatically calculate the optimal view settings based on your and your client’s current screen resolution and provide a convenient output of the remote screen:
Scenario 2: Connecting to a remote computer with higher screen resolution
This is what the remote desktop control window will look like when viewing multiple remote screens that have a significantly larger screen resolution in Original Size. In order to navigate between them, you’ll need to scroll up and down and across the remote desktop window, which is quite inconvenient:
The “Scale to Window” and “Optimal View” options, however, let you fit all of the remote screens in a single window and conveniently navigate them:
Other Improvements & Fixes
- Updated design of the remote desktop control window.
- Added Client Name label to the title of the remote desktop control window.
- Added button to the remote desktop toolbar for canceling file transfer. This button appears only for file transfers that were initiated using Copy&Paste or Drag-n-Drop. You can also cancel the pending file transfer using a Ctrl+Break key combination.
- Numerous minor improvements and bug fixes.
