The Start menu search bar may sometimes freeze and prevent you from typing in. If your Start menu search is not working, here’s what you can do to fix it.
- Run Powershell as an administrator.
- Copy and paste the following command:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
- After executing the command you may see a few errors in the Powershell dialog window, but you should ignore them. Close the Powershell window and restart your system once the process is finished. The Start menu search should be back up and running.
If you encounter any problems with the Settings menu after applying this fix:
- Run an elevated Command Prompt.
- Type in and run the following command:
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *immersivecontrolpanel*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
