When working on the latest FixMe.IT update, our development team dedicated its greatest effort towards ensuring clipboard sharing privacy in the Multi-Window Control mode. This means that you can share clipboard with only one client at a time, and can’t go to another window and unintentionally paste the same data without copying it again.
Let’s cover a real-life scenario that will help you better understand how clipboard transfer works in the Multi-Window Control mode.
Let’s say you’re working with two remote clients simultaneously (Session 1 and Session 2) and you want to run a certain command (“Start Notepad”, for instance) on both machines.
For that, you’ll first need to make the Session 1 window in focus, go back to your local notepad to copy the command to clipboard, then navigate to the Session 1 window and paste the text into the command prompt, as shown in the screencast below:
In order to do the same on the second client machine, you’ll need to make the Session 2 window in focus, copy the text from your local notepad once again and paste into the command prompt (see screencast below):
In the Multi-Window Control mode, clipboard exchange only works with the active session window (currently used or last used), and remains fully isolated from other inactive windows to ensure the maximum level of communication privacy between you and each individual client. This is a compromise that helps maintains the balance between security and sharing, and prevents accidentally pasting sensitive information into another session window. If you need to transfer the same clipboard data to another client, you’ll need to make that session window active, go back to your desktop to copy the data, and the paste the text or file again into the session window.
Please also keep in mind that FixMe.IT does not disable clipboard synchronization. This means that when you transfer clipboard data to Client 1, then switch to another remote desktop window and try to paste the same text or file for Client 2 without copying it again, you will actually be sharing data that was saved to your clipboard prior to working with Client 1.
