Fixed “Jumping Mouse” Issue on Windows 7 & Vista

April 28, 2016 by Dan Kukarsky

We’ve recently received a report from one of our users regarding a “jumping cursor” issue that occurred on Windows 7/Vista. The user’s mouse cursor appeared jumping all over the screen when moving it over certain windows during the support session. We’ve conducted an in-depth investigation and found that this issue was attributed to the use of legacy Windows applications that were DPI-unaware, and thus created the disturbance.

Here’s a quick workaround that helped us get the issue resolved:

  1. Check the remote computer’s display settings to adjust the scaling. Go to Control Panel > Display > Set custom text size (DPI) and make sure that the setting is configured to no more than 100%.
  2. Upgrade the FixMe.IT remote desktop application to its latest version.

Note that if you’re experiencing the same type of problem on Windows 8 or later versions of Microsoft OS, then it is not attributed to display settings, and there is a number of other solutions to this issue. Contact our support team, or leave us a message on Twitter for further assistance.
