Choosing a new input language for a specific user in Windows 10 is no big deal, but this doesn’t change the system language used in the Welcome/Shutdown screens, which is English by default. What’s more, if you need to set another language for the Welcome screen, while leaving the system’s display language as is, you will most probably spend hours searching for the solution, yet find nothing really useful.
However, there is an uncommon workaround that can help you tackle the problem. Read on to learn how to set different display languages for the Windows Login screen and the OS itself.
Go to Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region, and click on Language preferences.
Then go to Advanced settings located on the left.
In Override for Windows display language choose the one you want to be overriding the default display language (let’s assume it’s French). Click Save. Don’t log off and restart your machine just yet.
Go back to Clock, Language, and Region settings, and click on Region preferences. Then choose the Administrative tab and click Copy Settings.
Check the Welcome screen with a mark and proceed to saving the changes by clicking OK and restarting your computer.
As soon as you’re logged back into Windows, go to Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Advanced settings and change the display language in the Override section to English. Click Save and reboot your PC.
Voila! If you’ve done everything just as described above, the Welcome screen should now be greeting you in French, yet the system’s display language is set to default.
