Introducing New Options for Flexible Seat Management

September 19, 2023 by Dan Kukarsky

Today, we have introduced an important update which will allow you to conveniently and cost-effectively manage the purchased seats within a multi-user environment. Here’s a detailed overview of what’s changed and how you can benefit from these changes.

Assigning seats

As an administrator, you can now assign the available seats to users (technicians) who will be accessing the Expert Console and working with remote computers.

Previously, the number of active users on your subscription could not exceed the number of purchased seats. This is no longer the case. You can now create an unlimited number of active users. However, only users with assigned seats will be able to connect to remote computers.

Here’s an example:

You have purchased 6 seats and created 9 users. In this case, only 6 out of 9 users can be assigned a seat to work with remote computers.

The benefits of assigning seats

These recent changes are meant to give you the flexibility to grant/revoke access to SetMe’s Expert Console on the go when seats are being shared amongst a larger number of users on your team.

If the number of users that potentially need to work with remote computers exceeds the number of purchased seats, you can temporarily reassign a seat to a specific user (including yourself) while temporarily disabling another user’s access to the Expert console.

From now on, there’s no longer a need to keep certain users in an inactive status when the number of purchased seats is less than the number of users on your team. Users without an assigned seat will still have full access to SetMe’s web portal where they can create reports, add/edit users, and manage the subscription. They can also temporarily reassign a seat to themselves as long as they’re granted an Administrator role on the SetMe account.

It’s also no longer necessary to purchase and assign seats for users who will be handling only administrative tasks, such as billing or managing team reports, within your organization.

Managing seats via the web portal

Any user with an Administrator role can easily manage the available seats at any time via the web portal.

When creating a new user in the Users section of SetMe’s portal, you will notice the Assign seat checkbox which is active by default. If the new user doesn’t require access to the Expert Console, simply uncheck the box.

Reassigning seats among users involves just a couple of mouse clicks, takes a few seconds, and it can be done from any device. To reassign a seat to another user:

  1. Click the Manage user icon next to the user you want to remove the seat from and uncheck the Assign seat box.
  2. Hover over the user you want to assign the seat to, click the Manage user icon and check the Assign seat box.

If you have any questions about the new seat management capabilities, contact our support team.
