We’re excited to announce that today we’re rolling out a major update that includes the SetMe Client desktop app for macOS, two-factor authentication, as well as other important bug fixes, UI and performance improvements.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s inside this update and how both you and the remote user can benefit from the new features.
SetMe Client Desktop app for macOS
If you’ve been waiting for SetMe’s macOS desktop client – rejoice! We’ve just rolled out the installable client app that will allow Mac users to run SetMe from their desktop without having to download the portable version from set.me every time they require your assistance.
To install the desktop app for macOS:
- Download the .dmg image from SetMe’s portal or copy and send the installer link to the remote user.
- Open the .dmg file on the remote computer and double-click the Install SetMe Client icon.
- Click Open in the system prompt message, then enter the current administrator’s password.
The installed macOS app can easily be accessed via Dock, Launchpad, or the Applications menu, and allows you to perform all operations that require admin privileges on the remote computer, even if the remote user doesn’t have admin rights.
Two-factor authentication
As an extra layer of security, you can now enable two-factor authentication for your login within the Profile section of SetMe’s portal as well as manage 2FA settings for other users on the same account.
Once two-factor authentication is enabled, every attempt to sign into your account will require entering a random 6-digit code that’s delivered to a specified email. Visit our Help Center to learn more about the two-step verification process and how to enable 2FA for your own login or any other users on your team.
Other recent improvements
- Added important security enhancements, in particular, improved protection against brute-force attempts to start a connection using incorrect Client IDs.
- Introduced minor performance and infrastructure improvements.
Bug fixes
- Fixed a rare bug that prevented SetMe’s Client app from generating a Client ID on some Windows 8 computers.
Our team is working hard to roll out new features, such as the SetMe Unattended Client and Expert Console for macOS, so stay tuned for more updates!
