Here at Techinline we’re no newbies to working remotely. Being a geographically distributed team, we have always put a great lot of attention to organizing and refining a workflow that would help us reach our goals no matter where we are.
Here’s our own list of nine tried-and-true software solutions for remote work and collaboration.
Unsurprisingly, FixMe.IT is the only app we use for remote support, remote access, and remote control. Whenever we need to help each other out with, retrieve import files from a home office PC, host an online software tutorial, or access a customer’s computer to fix a technical issue, FixMe.IT is the remote desktop tool that always works.
We’re kind of old-fashioned when it comes to conference and video calling. Despite many other businesses switching to Zoom and other alternatives, Skype still remains our tool of choice. For external communications with customers and partners, we prefer RingCentral which offers powerful cloud phone and video conferencing capabilities.
Slack is where our developers communicate with each other. With no real competitors on the market, Slack offers the best way to collaborate and coordinate day-to-day tasks while working remotely.
Atlassian’s Jira is mostly used by our development team to assign and manage project tasks, fix bugs and issues, and log in the time spent on a particular project.
Confluence is a great tool for managing both internal and external technical documentation. It may seem a bit sophisticated and not too flexible at first, but there’s plenty of add-ons and other customization options that allow you to create different kinds of knowledge bases and FAQs and easily edit them on the go.
For our development and product management teams OneDrive is the primary tool for storing and sharing important text and MS Visio files, presentations, and Excel tables. At the same time, Google Drive is mostly used by our marketing team for sharing and coediting texts and reports.
Mindmeister is our go-to app for brainstorming new ideas and refining old ones. It allows us to create visually structured, actionable project plans that can be edited by multiple team members at the same time, and exported as PDF, MS Word, PowerPoint, or image files.
