According to NetMarketShare, Windows 10 is becoming more popular every month, but it hasn’t managed to beat Windows 7 which still has the highest percentage of the market share at a whopping 41.23 percent.
Our own research shows that the usage share of Windows among FixMe.IT experts (IT pros) and end-users is a bit different from that on the global scale. As of June 2018, 66.7 percent of IT pros using FixMe.IT to provide remote support to customers adopted Windows 10, while Windows 7 had a significantly lower percentage of the usage share at 29.6 percent.
In contrast, many remote users (primarily with lower IT knowledge) still prefer Windows 7 over Windows 10. According to our research, 38.4 percent of FixMe.IT clients were on Windows 7 in June 2018.
Another interesting takeaway is that Windows XP, the oldest version of Windows in use, is still here to stay. In June 2018, 0.74 percent of end-users were using Windows XP as their primary OS.
Historical data shows that FixMe.IT experts were upgrading to Windows 10 much faster than remote users. The battle between Windows 10 and other versions of the OS reached its breaking point in August 2016, when Windows 10 surpassed the usage share of Windows 7 at 45.38 percent.
At the same time, remote users were not in a hurry to adopt Windows 10 — probably due to their usage habits or general media buzz that raised concerns about security or unavailability of certain features. On the client side, Windows 10 finally managed to topple Windows 7 only in October 2017 when the usage share of the former reached 45.25 percent and the latter continued its slow, steady decline.
