In a previous post we provided you with a brief overview of the key benefits that a Techinline subscription brings to our users. However, a subscription is not the only option available and if you know or expect that your usage volume needs are quite limited, then a Per-Session license might be a more flexible and affordable solution. Let’s consider some of the characteristics of this license type.
Why Per-Session?
Also known as Techinline’s “pay as you go” model, Per-Session licensing can rarely be seen on the remote desktop software market, which makes Techinline stand out from competing solutions. Unlike the subscription, Per-Session licensing may not offer some of the benefits and peace of mind of having an unlimited number of sessions at your disposal, yet it effectively fits the needs of sporadic home or business users who occasionally need to conduct a support session.
If you’re a home user, look at it as if you don’t have the whole office or a long list of customers to support every day, while your parents or grandparents who are not too friendly with all this computer stuff occasionally need your assistance. In this sense, having a small 5-session bundle at hand will allow you to connect whenever your family members call on your assistance without investing into an unlimited subscription that’s rarely used. In other words, you pay strictly for the number of connections, not for a fixed subscription term.
Multiple connections to same machine within 12 hours
One of the key benefits of purchasing such a license is your ability to connect to the same machine within 12 hours without being charged for an additional session. Say, you fixed an issue or installed a new OS version on your parents’ computer, but your father calls you back in an hour and says that the browser still keeps crashing. In this case, you don’t need to run another session – the last one can be continued multiple times within the next 12 hours since its initial start.
Things to consider: less flexibility
Now, let’s consider some of the specifics of the “pay-as-you-go” model. First, you don’t get to enjoy the flexibility of the unlimited use offered by a subscription. The Per-Session model does not include the unattended access feature, meaning that the remote user’s presence is always required in order to connect. Another thing to bear in mind is that you’ll still be able to run multiple concurrent sessions if ever needed, but each connection will count as a session off your account balance.
To summarize:
- Pay for a fixed number of on-demand support sessions rather than a specific time period
- Connect to the same machine within 12 hours without being charged for another session
- Per-Session license does not include unattended access
That said, if you want to purchase a small bundle of sessions that will allow you to connect to an attended remote computer from time to time, then paying strictly for the number of sessions may be a smart and cost-effective decision. On the other hand, if the number of expected support sessions exceeds 5 per month on average, then you’re better off purchasing a subscription.
